Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 June 2026.
This policy applies to information handled by the Emerald Email app.
Within this policy, “Emerald Email” or “this app” refers to the instance of the Emerald Email application on your device, and “the developer”, “we”, or “us” refers to the developer of Emerald Email.
Information You Provide
When you add an email account to Emerald Email, the app stores the account details needed to connect to your mailbox. This may include your email address, username, display name, incoming mail server, port, security setting, authentication type, and selected account preference.
Passwords and account secrets are stored in the macOS Keychain. Emerald Email does not store mailbox passwords in saved account metadata.
Email Content
Emerald Email downloads email from the mail accounts you choose to connect. This may include sender names, sender addresses, subjects, message previews, message bodies, HTML email content, received dates, message identifiers, and read state.
This information is stored locally on your Mac so Emerald Email can display your mailbox and reconnect more quickly.
Email content is not transmitted to the developer of Emerald Email.
Mail Providers and Microsoft Sign-In
Emerald Email connects directly to the mail provider you configure, such as a self-hosted IMAP server or Outlook / Hotmail.
If you use Microsoft sign-in, authentication is handled through Microsoft. Emerald Email receives the information needed to access your mailbox, such as your email address, account identifier, and access token. Microsoft’s handling of sign-in data is covered by Microsoft’s Privacy Statement.
Your mail provider may process, store, or transmit your email data according to its own privacy policy and account terms.
Local Storage
Emerald Email stores account metadata in local app preferences and stores cached email messages in the user’s Application Support folder on your Mac.
When you remove an account from Emerald Email, the app removes the saved password or account secret for that account and deletes the cached messages associated with that account.
Analytics, Tracking, and Advertising
Emerald Email does not use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking services.
Emerald Email does not sell your data.
Emerald Email does not use your email content, account details, or mailbox activity for advertising or marketing.
Remote Email Content
Email messages may contain remote images, links, tracking pixels, or other content controlled by the sender or third parties. Emerald Email is designed to keep email rendering constrained and does not send your email content to the developer.
If you open links from an email, those websites may receive information according to their own privacy policies.
Support and Contact
If you contact the developer for support, you may choose to share information such as your email address, screenshots, logs, or a description of the issue. Please do not send passwords, access tokens, or private email contents unless specifically requested and only after removing sensitive information.
If you have questions about this privacy policy, please use the Contact form to get in touch.
Your Consent
By using Emerald Email, you consent to this privacy policy.
Changes to This Policy
If we decide to change this privacy policy, we will revise this document.
